25 July: Lundy's Lane to that point, the bloodiest engagement in North America. There were 3,000 British/Canadian militia and about 2,100 US troops engaged and between them they amassed over 1600 casualties – a 33% casualty rate! The US troops withdrew the following day leaving us possession of the field and once again Canada was saved. It was also an unusual engagement for being fought largely in the dark. A much neglected subject in Great Britain where it is usually overshadowed by the wider European conflict
